100 Common Birds of India Found in Manipur :Wildlife, Birding, and Conservation

 Interview with Premjit Elangbam

Linthoi: Can you introduce yourself?

Premjit Elangbam:  I am Premjit Elangbam from Manipur. I work as a Wildlife Photographer and Researcher. I have always been deeply interested in nature, wildlife, and especially birds. Over the years, I have spent a lot of time observing and studying birds in different places. My passion for birding encouraged me to work on projects that can help people learn more about the wildlife around them.

Interest in Wildlife and Birding

Linthoi:How did your interest in wildlife and birding begin?

Premjit Elangbam:My interest in wildlife started from a young age when I spent time observing nature and birds around my surroundings. Slowly, bird watching became one of my favorite activities. As I learned more about different species, I realized how important birds are to nature and the environment. This passion later inspired me to become involved in wildlife photography and research.

Inspiration Behind the Book

Linthoi:What inspired you to write this book?

Premjit Elangbam: “The increasing threats faced by wildlife and birds inspired me to create this book. Many bird species are losing their habitats due to environmental changes and human activities. I wanted to make a checklist of birds that could help people identify and learn about them. I also wanted to spread awareness about the importance of protecting wildlife and conserving nature.

About the Book

Linthoi: What is your book about?

Premjit Elangbam: My book is mainly about birds commonly found in India, especially those found in Manipur. It works as a checklist and reference guide for bird watchers, students, researchers, and nature lovers. The book introduces readers to different bird species and helps them understand the diversity of birds around us. It is written in a simple way so that everyone can understand it easily.

Importance of the Book

Linthoi:  Why do you think this book is important?

Premjit Elangbam:

I believe this book is important because many people are not aware of the birds living around them. Birds are an important part of nature and play a major role in maintaining ecological balance. By learning about birds, people can develop respect and concern for wildlife conservation. The book can also help students and researchers who are interested in studying birds.

Target Audience

Linthoi: Who is your target audience?

Premjit Elangbam: My target audience is the general public. Anyone interested in nature, birds, and wildlife can read this book. Students, teachers, researchers, and beginners in bird watching may also find it helpful. I wanted the information to be simple and accessible for everyone.

Choosing the Topic

Linthoi: Why did you choose this topic?

Premjit  Elangbam: I chose this topic because birding is one of my biggest passions. I felt there was a strong need to create a checklist of birds in regional languages so that local people could understand and  connect with them more easily. I wanted to make bird knowledge available not only to researchers but also to ordinary people.

Regional Language and Research

Linthoi: Why did you include regional language names in the book?

Premjit Elangbam:

Including regional language names was very important because local people are more familiar with those names. It also helps preserve local knowledge and culture related to birds. I wanted readers from different communities to feel connected to the book and understand the birds found in their surroundings.

Writing Process

Linthoi: How long did it take you to write the book?

Premjit Elangbam: It took me around twelve months to complete the book. During that time, I spent a lot of effort collecting information, observing birds, and organizing the checklist carefully. Writing the book required patience, research, and dedication.

Challenges Faced

Linthoi: What challenges did you face while writing?

Premjit Elangbam:  One of the biggest challenges was finding accurate bird names in local languages. Sometimes it was difficult to confirm the correct names and information. Collecting and organizing data also took a lot of time. However, despite these challenges, I continued working because I wanted the book to be useful and meaningful.

Message to Readers

Linthoi: What message do you want readers to take from your book?

Premjit Elangbam: I want readers to become more aware of the birds around them and understand the importance of wildlife conservation. Birds are a beautiful part of our environment, and protecting them is everyone’s responsibility. I hope this book encourages people to appreciate nature and take care of the environment.

Feedback from Readers

Linthoi: What feedback have you received from readers or students?

Premjit Elangbam:  Many readers and students have appreciated the book and used it as a reference for their work. Some people found it very useful for identifying birds and learning about wildlife. Positive feedback from readers motivates me to continue working in this field.

Future Plans

Linthoi: Are you planning to write more books in the future?

Premjit Elangbam:  Yes, I would like to continue writing more books related to birds, wildlife, and conservation. I hope my future works can help spread more awareness and encourage people to care about nature and biodiversity.

Conclusion

Linthoi: Thank you for sharing your experiences and ideas with us

Premjit Elangbam: Thank you for giving me this opportunity. I hope more people become interested in birds, wildlife, and conservation. Every small effort towards protecting nature can make a big difference for the future.
